General Information

The Department of Physics provides undergraduate education as well as Master and Doctorate level education. In addition, there are Double Major and Minor programs in our department.

Department of Physics Undergraduate Program

The undergraduate program consists of a total of 8 semesters. Education is carried out with the support of theoretical courses as well as laboratory courses. In addition to compulsory program courses, education is completed with departmental elective courses or elective courses that can be taken from outside the department. A total of 240 ECTS courses must be taken for graduation and the general grade point average must be at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Department of Physics Double Major Program

Students with a success average of at least 3.00 can benefit from this program within the quotas and if the department approves.

Department of Physics Minor Program

Students with a success average of at least 2.50 can benefit from this program within the quotas and if the department approves.

Physics Department MSc Program

The aim of the thesis master’s program is to provide students with the ability to access, evaluate and interpret information by conducting scientific research.

A thesis master’s program is implemented in the physics department. It consists of at least 7 credit courses, 1 seminar course and thesis work, with a total of no less than 21 credits. In order to complete the program, a minimum student workload of 120 ECTS is required with a minimum GPA of 3.00.

Physics Department PhD Program

The aim of the doctoral program is to provide students with the ability to conduct independent research, to analyze scientific events from a broad and deep perspective and to comment, and to determine the necessary steps to reach new syntheses.

The doctoral program consists of at least 8 courses, 1 seminar course, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and thesis work, with a total of no less than 24 credits for students accepted with a thesis master’s degree. In order to complete the doctoral program, the total student workload required with a minimum GPA of 3.00 is at least 240 ECTS for those accepted with a master’s degree.

The doctoral program also accepts students with a bachelor’s degree. It consists of at least 14 courses, 1 seminar course, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and thesis study, with a total of no less than 42 credits. In order to complete the doctoral program, the total student workload required with a minimum GPA of 3.00 is at least 300 ECTS.
